The Skin Cancer Prevention Program's (SCPP) goals are to:
- Increase public awareness regarding the dangers of over exposure to sunlight
- Increase individual and organization-wide practice of sun-safety behaviors; and
- Decrease future incidents (new cases) of skin cancer among California residents

Primary target audiences are:
- Children under 12 years of age, their parents, and other care providers for children, and
- Outdoor workers
|

Services/Materials
- Distribute Sun-Safety Educational Toolkits designed for implementation with students three years of age through sixth grade, to child care facilities, preschools, and elementary schools;
- Promote integration of sun-safety measures (education, policy, increased campus shade cover) within school systems;
- Disseminate Outdoor Worker Sun-Safety Toolkits designed for outdoor-based employees;
- Provide technical assistance to organizations developing sun-safety guidelines and educational tools;
- Conduct media campaigns to promote sun-safety practices to the public.

Funding
The SCPP is funded through a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Comprehensive Cancer Control Program; administered by the Public Health Institute in collaboration with the California Dialogue on Cancer (CDOC).
