Cancer Center of Santa Barbara

Project Summary: Cancer Center of Santa Barbara will hold an ovarian cancer educational forum on ovarian cancer including disease overview, symptom recognition, and prevention/risk reduction strategies based on family/personal history.  Individuals are identified at increased risk for ovarian cancer, additional genetic counseling services will be provided.

Healthy Heritage Movement Inc.

Project Summary: HHM will conduct culturally appropriate presentations in beauty salons that provide services to African American women. The presentations will focus on symptom recognition and include a personal story from an African American survivor.

Nancy’s List

Project Summary: Nancy’s List will implement a social marketing campaign that will include public outreach activities including enhancement of their website with ovarian cancer information as well as Facebook and Twitter implementation.  Educational materials will also be distributed during scheduled educational presentations.

Ovarian Cancer Orange County Alliance

Project Summary: OCOCA will develop a health care provider education program focused on ovarian cancer signs, symptoms, and risk factors. The program will provide clinicians new information and reinforce the importance of identifying patients with risk factors and increase awareness of ovarian cancer signs and symptoms to allow them to detect ovarian cancer at an earlier stage. OCOCA will work with three provider groups to accomplish their goals.

University of California Irvine Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center

Project Summary: UCI will hold a symposium on ovarian cancer awareness issues including strategies to improve ovarian cancer prevention outcomes.  The symposium will include formal educational presentations and an interactive panel.  Continuing medical education credit will be available to healthcare providers.  This symposium will include a community education component.

Women’s Cancer Awareness Group

Project Summary: WCAG will host a "A Day of Health & Joy for Women" educating women on the symptoms and risk factors of ovarian cancer.  The program will include ovarian cancer survivors telling their stories of hope, breakout sessions and guest speakers.  In addition, WCAG will conduct outreach on ovarian cancer awareness and program promotion to five women’s groups.
