California Colorectal Cancer Program - Mini-Grant Program
Congratulations to FY11-12 Mini-Grant Awardees!
- The Cancer Resource Center of Mendocino County (CRCMC) will partner with local groups and agencies to provide education to community members in rural areas through "Gardening for Colorectal Health" presentations. In addition, CRCMC will conduct a broad media campaign during Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month 2012.
- The Center for American Indian Indigenous Research and Education (CAIIRE) will educate healthcare providers in Northern and Southern California on the importance of early colorectal cancer screening and detection, and discuss culturally sensitive approaches to addressing colorectal cancer in California's American Indian communities.
- The Delores Project will raise awareness of colorectal cancer screening and prevention in the African American community in the South Los Angeles area through wide-reaching cable commercials and the implementation of a Take the Pledge campaign that includes diverse social media and participation incentives.
- Hmong Women's Heritage Association will train at least six Southeast Asian lay health workers from two community-based organizations to provide colorectal cancer educational workshops and follow-up assistance to Southeast Asian community members in the Sacramento area.
- SET for LIFE (Senior Education and Training for Living Informed Futures Everyday) will conduct a colorectal cancer Continuing Medical Education program for healthcare providers in the San Gabriel Valley of Southern California, along with an educational media campaign and Zumba fitness program for community members.
- The University of California, Irvine (UCI) will pilot an online risk assessment tool in Orange County that identifies high-risk patients and guides them through a referral source of care. UCI will conduct outreach and provide training to primary care physicians, gastroenterologists, and Vietnamese and Chinese community members.
