Prevention: Tobacco Implementation Team

Tobacco Subcommittee

Funding:
Increase support for a state tobacco excise tax of at least $1.50 per pack to increase the funding level for and to support the infrastructure of the California Tobacco Control Program (CTCP)

Strategy:
CTCP will host policy regional forums to outreach to California stakeholders to educate on evidence based strategies to increase the price of tobacco to decrease consumption; develop and distribute educational materials related to increasing the price of tobacco and its impact on smoking prevalence. CTCP will visit editorial boards to educate the public on the cost of smoking to California’s health care system

Policies to Eliminate Exposure to Secondhand Smoke:
Increase protection against secondhand smoke exposure provided to workers by eliminating exemptions and loopholes in California’s Smokefree Workplace law (Labor Code 6404.5).

Strategy:
CTCP will host policy regional forums to outreach to California stakeholders to educate on loopholes and exemptions in California’s Smokefree Workplace Law. CTCP will develop a secondhand smoke (SHS) tools/strategies/public relations education packet for dissemination at the forums.
