NCCP - CCCP Grant Abstract
After the release of
California'
s Comprehensive Cancer Control (CCC) Plan in April 2004, the state began its implementation phase of comprehensive cancer control by establishment of the California Dialogue on Cancer (CDOC), a coalition of cancer control leaders concerned with the cancer burden on the residents of
California
. Four CDOC implementation teams, whose focus areas reflect the life cycle of cancer (Prevention, Access to Care, Survivorship & Treatment, and Research, Surveillance & Evaluation), currently prioritize and refine strategies and tactics for implementation of the goals and objectives set forth in the CCC Plan.
Major program activities for CDOC and the administrative CCC Program, housed at the California Department of Public Health, over the next five-year funding cycle will focus on sustainability of the program's infrastructure and partnerships, evaluation, and continuing implementation of CCC Plan strategies and tactics. CDOC's Executive Committee (governing body) selected the top priorities and evidence-based implementation activities for FY 07-08 (Year 1) based on two of the implementation teams' work plans. These priorities include partnering with 5 new
California
regions to continue promoting/implementing access to care programs such as community forums, town meetings, health fairs and expositions and creating a Cancer Progress Report for
California
by tracking CDOC's progress towards achieving CCC Plan goals and objectives (using population-based data sources in CA such as CCR, BRFS, CHIS, etc.). Each year, CDOC's governing body will continue to meet and vote on what the next year's main priorities will be. As in Year 1, these priorities will always be evidence-based (as per the Guide to Community Preventive Services, Cancer Control P.L.A.N.E.T., U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, etc.).
To compliment the main CCCP application, we are also submitting proposals for three additional programs: Skin Cancer, Colorectal Cancer, and Ovarian Cancer.
California'
s CCCP has been funded previously for both Skin Cancer and Colorectal Cancer Additional Programs, while the addition of the Ovarian Cancer proposal this year will continue to expand the reach and specificity of our efforts in the state throughout the next five-year funding cycle.
